How do I use it?
For detailed instructions, check out our Learn Lab. Sidekick is a beginner-friendly tool, so it's really easy to use without hurting yourself. After applying emollient to your skin, use your Sidekick tool to apply moderate pressure to the targeted area. Use a mix of long strokes and short strokes, in any direction, to massage the muscle effectively. Repeat on all the surrounding muscles.
-
Is it painful?
No. Sidekick is designed to feel good on the body and you are totally in control of the pressure. Unlike cheaper alternatives, the edge is not too sharp that it will cause pain. When working through areas that are particularly tight, many describe it as a 'good pain' that feels like it's effectively addressing the problem area.
-
Why is Sidekick better than a butter knife?
Effectiveness, safety, and comfort. Sidekick is designed for therapeutic use. Unlike a butter knife, which has a flat, blunt edge that may cause more damage or skin irritation, Sidekick has a dual-beveled edge that targets tissues effectively without damaging your skin or muscles. The tool's weight and specific curvatures also allows for much better control compared to using a butter knife.

Isn't this just Gua Sha?
Exactly! The techniques we promote with our tools are based on 2000-year-old Chinese practices. We took that technique and built the world's best tools to apply it.
The technique of muscle scraping (also known as Gua Sha or IASTM) is one that is backed by science and peer-reviewed clinical research. -
How does scraping work?
Scraping increases blood flow to the tissue for faster recovery. It does this by breaking down old blood vessels which encourages the body to generate new and more efficient ones, consequently enhancing blood flow and recovery.
For this reason, you’ll often see bright red spots during scraping (known as Petechiae), which is the breaking up of tiny blood vessels beneath the skin. -
Does it hurt?
Contrary to some beliefs, muscle scraping is not painful. Since you are administering the therapy to yourself, you are fully in control of the pressure you apply to your skin.
Due to the nature of how the tool works, even minimal pressure will provide improved recovery. -
Why can't I just use a butter knife?
The contours of our tools are designed to conform to your body for more effective and efficient scraping. Imagine taking a butter knife to scrape your thighs – it would take you forever!
Let’s not forget about the obvious as well – the sharp edges may leave lasting damage. Our edge is perfectly refined to be effective yet safe.
